Ulan Bator, Mongolia
The Residence of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Mongolia designed by Han Tümertekin is located in the Embassies district of Ulan Bator. This government building consists of a residential area for the Representative and his family as well as space for official ceremonies and state events. Although the building serves both for official state functions and residential ones, these two distinct purposes are separated from each other as much as possible in the construction plan. The architecture of the building is based on the significant symbolic features of Turkish domestic architecture.
The gaps between the lines of precast concrete elements that give the building its up and down movement on the external façade are filled with Andesite stone from Ankara to draw attention to this geometry and reflect the architecture of the government buildings of the Turkish capital. The Turkish cultural identity is reflected upon the building in Mongolia to create a connection between Ankara and Ulan Bator.
Overall the building comprises a balanced design that meets the residential needs of a political leader and satisfies official requirements of a diplomatic domicile.
