Jury motivation: It is like an adventure that eliminate all chichè of a private housing. Playfull and updating the traditional local housing typology.

In Saigon, there is a story about Van Duong Phu, a masterpiece of architecture, built by Mr. Vuong Hong Sen, a culturist, an academic, and a famous collector of antiques. Moreover, he also has a deep knowledge of southern Vietnam and wrote many books about Saigon.
At the end of his life, he would have liked to dedicate his house as a museum in order to prevent the antiques from being stolen and introduce Saigon culture to visitors.
However, after his death, the house has been abandoned, and the spirit is totally lost.
We’ve recognized that although being respected and successful in his works, he failed in passing his love to his family. Therefore, they do not respect their childhood.

Established on Dec 2009 by Hiep Hoa Nguyen, a21studio, a small architecture office in Saigon, Vietnam, would like to express its thoughts about beauties and traditional culture of its country by its designs. Although mostly using local materials and popular construction methods, the projects still stand out with their own distinctive features and always explored new ways to adapt studio’s changes in its thoughts about people and society.
In 2015, there was a large transformation of a21studio in to its latest works, with different building types and materials. All this is to show the studio’s desire to bring freshness and positive impacts to its surrounding world.
