Qiyun Mountain Camp is the largest natural-adventure/extreme-sport park in China. It is located by Qiyun Mountain, a beautiful natural and sacred site as the birthplace of Taoism and the yin-yang symbol. LOT-EK designed all the public buildings immersed in wild environment of the park. Shipping containers are cut on a bias to generate the base units of all buildings.
They are joined, mirrored, tilted and recombined to fit several programs and make up new typologies. Three different areas are inserted in the landscape strategically adapting to the hilly topography and are color-coded to create detectible landmarks.
The orange and blue area marks the entrance with an Entrance Pavilion and Market Street.
The Pavilion functions as gateway with ticketing below, and reception/information above and it is visible from the main roadway. Right behind it, Market Street provides shops, cafes and service, with pergolas and upper decks that connect to the surrounding hills.
The yellow and blue area marks the park’s highest hill with a Restaurant Plaza overlooking the river below. Its iconic tilted containers serve as sky dining room and zip-line launch platform. Near the water below, the blue Aquatic Pier provides river and lake access with related services. Modular units are arranged around the shaded head of the pier to form a plaza with amenities and along the pier to offer kayak storage.
