TSH Florence Lavagnini awakens a vacant 20.000 m2 palazzo into a new hotspot for students, entrepreneurs, travellers and locals to meet, connect and as we say “discover their purpose”. TSH Florence is part of a larger regeneration effort which includes refurbished park space and the arrival of a new tram line, breathing new life into an underserved area. Designed in collaboration with Rizoma Architetture, our challenge was to illuminate the building’s architecture and heritage, such as its original marble floors, dramatic staircases and frescoes, while adding youth, color and energy to the building and surrounding area.
The building’s history is apparent with the two historic arched passageways that form the grand entranceway. The colored light tubes lining the entranceway’s walls and the pink swings that dangle from the ceiling are modern touches that set the stage for fun. An art-filled internal courtyard anchors the hotel, providing guests and city residents with a new community space. In the courtyard and across the hotel, art will evolve, with TSH providing a stage for ‘living’ installations that stand in playful contrast with the masterpieces of Florence.
Communal areas were designed with an energetic and inspiring vibe that encourage connectivity among students, guests and locals. Inspired by Memphis and Architecture Radicale styling cues, communal areas are brought to life with locally sourced, traditional materials, colorful graphics and geometric patterns. The pinnacle of the hotel is its Tuscan beach resort themed rooftop pool and bar that boast sweeping views of the Duomo.
