Architecture doesn´t only exist as an element in the landscape also as a part of it. Hotel Live Aqua was designed as the artifact in dialog with geography and cultural heritage of San Miguel de Allende. This tribute to Mexican architecture was developed with the holistic focus based on the master plan for cultural activation of the north zone of the city, executed by architectural and interior design. The contemporary architectural language was printed into the existing structure inspired by Mexican hacienda by adding new volumes esthetically faithful to the essence of the city and its surroundings.
The importance of human scale is expressed by the horizontal disposition of the functional program of the hotel around courtyards and squares allowing the gradual discovery of the building. The hotel entrance, the multilevel square reinterpreted as an urban art gallery with sculpture by Javier Marin, integrates Live Aqua with urban tissue. The sense of arriving grows while crossing antique door and entering the double height space with metal latticework ceiling. From there entrance courtyard leads through Escher like staircase-fountain to simple spaces of the courtyards and plazas with a view on Obraje Dam and rocky scenery of surrounding hills. The landscape is traduced into textures and volumes of the hotel crating meaning and emotional character of the space.
Live Aqua San Miguel de Allende redefines the sense of touristic lodging creating a cultural product that brings a unique guest experience, connecting as a “second skin” with beauty and mystique power of this unique city.
